Political life on the Isle of Man forms an important part of its history and culture. With the world's oldest parliament in Tynwald, and the current political system based in the capital Douglas, understanding the island's politics is key to understanding its people and culture.

The Old House of Keys in the former capital Castletown is the former centre of 19th century political life on the island and is a key point of interest for any followers of political history.

Restored to its former 1866 appearance the building is a fascinating location which will show you how democracy developed on the Island, and the ongoing effect that political decisions have on the Manx people.

Castletown is a popular stop on the Manx Steam Railway and in addition to the House of Keys it is well worth visiting Castle Rushen for more insight into the history of the island throughout the centuries.

Further information can be found on the Manx National Heritage website.
