While visiting the Isle of Man there are a plenty of activities from hiring a bike and cycling the outdoors through to Basking Shark spotting off the coastline. If you want to really explore and understand the Isle of Man's history, and the people who lived it, then there are certain Manx locations which are "must see" items during your visit.

One such location is Cashtal Purt-ny-Hinshey, or Peel Castle, which stands on St Patrick's Isle and is connected to Peel via a causeway. One of the pride's in the Manx National Heritage range of sites this location is open to visitors during the summer, as well as being available for ghost tours if you are feeling brave.

Built by Vikings in the 11th century to replace the older stone monastic buildings on the island, the original building was wood before the majority of the walls and towers were built from stone in the 14th century.

After visiting this heritage attraction there is still plenty to do in Peel and the a popular pairing for Peel Castle is to visit the House of Manannan a few minutes walk away.
