Dark Skies Tourism

The Isle of Man is already recognised as one of the world’s leading nations in the development of space commerce, but it’s also a prime location for ‘Dark Skies Tourism’ within the British Isles.

Twenty-six locations have been identified across the Island by the Dark Skies Development Initiative where astronomers can come and enjoy spectacular, uninterrupted views of the night skies and beyond. These are:

  • Sulby Reservoir car park
  • Ballaugh Beach
  • Cregneash
  • Rushen Abbey
  • Poulsom Park
  • Mooragh Promenade, Ramsey
  • The Sloc
  • West Baldwin Reservoir
  • Ballure Reservoir
  • Glen Wyllin
  • Tynwald Mills Car Park
  • Ballanette Country Park (Baldrine)
  • Port Lewaigue Car Park
  • Conrhenny Car Park
  • Glen Mooar Beach
  • Peel Castle
  • Mount Murray
  • Clypse and Kerrowdhoo Reservoirs
  • Tholty y Will Reservoir
  • Smeale Coast
  • Axnfell Plantation
  • Port Soderick Brooghs
  • Port Soderick Little Ness car park
  • Niarbyl
  • The Sound
  • The Fort, Castletown

So what makes the Island such a fantastic location for this? Lower levels of light pollution than anywhere else, incredibly dark skies and the fact it is so open mean it’s the perfect place for stargazers to visit.

We look forward to welcoming you!
