The icing on the cake for the Isle of Man is of course it’s world famous Mountain TT Circuit. Located in the north east of the island the Snaefell Mountain Road is a leading motorsport destination in the Isle of Man.
The mountain stretch, also known as Mountain Road or A18, comprises of impeccable asphalt and links the Capital of the Island (Douglas) to a smaller Northern Town (Ramsey). The Mountain Road Stretches over 15.30 mile (24.62 km). The highest point on the course is located near the Snaefell Mountain and is known to locals as ‘The Bungalow’. This sits at an elevation of 422m (1,385ft) above the sea level.
The exquisite winding mountain drive with sharp and blind corners boasts fantastic scenic views from every point on the road! There is even a ‘hairpin’ switchback at the Ramsey end of the course. This Mountain course will not only test the skill of a driver, it will also take a lot of courage as the road is listed in the top 15 most dangerous roads in the world.
For two weeks at the beginning of May/ start of June every year the Mountain road will be closed for the annual Isle of Man TT Races. The road is used as part of a longer road-racing circuit which you may wish to drive round once on the Island!
Take a step back from the Mountain course, and you’ll find sandy coves, rugged cliffs, enchanted glens, spectacular countryside and miles of uncrowded beaches. If off-roading is more suited to your vehicle of choice, why not explore some of the Island ‘Green Lanes’. Containing pure off-roading chaos and challenging gradients the Isle of Man green lanes are a great way to push you and your cars limits!
