House of Manannan

The Isle of Man is an island steeped in history, legends and traditions, shaped over centuries by Celtic, Viking and Christian influences. At the heart of this fascinating heritage is Manannan Mac Lir, the legendary Celtic sea god, who welcomes visitors to discover the island’s past at the House of Manannan.

Located on the quayside in Peel, on the west coast of the island, this immersive heritage attraction offers visitors a unique journey through Manx history. Step inside a traditional Celtic roundhouse, experience life aboard the Viking longship Odin’s Raven and discover what it was like to live and work in a Viking longhouse.

Packed with interactive displays, storytelling and historical characters, the museum brings the island’s legends and traditions vividly to life. Visitors can also explore a recreated 19th-century Peel, complete with the sights and distinctive smells of a traditional Manx kipper yard.

With its strong connection to the sea, the House of Manannan provides an engaging insight into how the ocean has shaped the culture, traditions and everyday life of the Manx people throughout history.
