At the southern tip of the Isle of Man, the Sound offers spectacular views across to the Calf of Man and is a wonderful place to pause and enjoy the Island’s natural beauty. After travelling south on the Heritage Steam Railway or visiting the living museum at Cregneash, be sure to make time for this scenic corner of the Island.
The Calf of Man is a small island nature reserve and bird observatory, sitting on an important migration route and providing a haven for a remarkable variety of wildlife. The visitor centre offers fascinating information about the island’s birds, habitats and the many shipwrecks found in the surrounding waters.
For walkers, the Sound also provides an excellent starting or finishing point for coastal routes towards Spanish Head and Port Erin, or the Chasms and Port St Mary. And if you’re feeling adventurous, overnight stays on the Calf can be arranged. Although you’ll need to bring your own camping essentials and arrange boat transport.
