Pre-TT Classic Road Races 2027

Classic Bikes. Legendary Racing. Unforgettable Atmosphere

The Pre-TT Classic Road Races were established in 1988 at the request of the then TT organisers, the Auto-Cycle Union (ACU). Classic racing had first appeared on the Billown Course twelve months earlier as part of the popular Southern 100 Road Races.

The inaugural Pre-TT Classic Road Races were held on 31 May 1988. The meeting featured four races: 250cc/350cc, 500cc, Unlimited, and Sidecars, attracting a total of 115 entries.

The honour of becoming the first-ever race winner went to Graham Godward of Royston, Hertfordshire, riding a 350cc Aermacchi. The 250cc class was dominated by local classic racing specialist Mike Cain of Onchan aboard his 250cc Suzuki.

Dave Pither, riding a Seeley Matchless, claimed victory in the 500cc race ahead of Richard Swallow on Syd Lawton's Aermacchi, with Alan Dugdale finishing third. In the Unlimited race, Robert Price of Stroud rode his BSA Metisse to victory, while the controversial MV Agusta sidecar outfit of Mark Kay and Richard Battisson took the chequered flag in the final race of the day.

The Classics had arrived at Billown.

More than three decades later, the Blackford's Pre-TT Classic Road Races has become one of the most popular and prestigious meetings on the annual classic racing calendar. The event is now regarded as a "must-do" for competitors and enthusiasts alike, regularly attracting well over 250 entries across a nine-race programme.
