World Tin Bath Championship Castletown 2026

The World Tin Bath Championships is one of the Isle of Man’s most unique and entertaining sporting events, taking place on 4th July 2026 at Middle Harbour in Castletown. Set against the historic backdrop of Isle of Man, this light-hearted competition brings together sport, tradition, and charity in one unforgettable day out.

Held in Middle Harbour, the event sees competitors race around a 400m course in specially adapted tin baths. Some are surprisingly seaworthy, others far less so, which only adds to the fun. Over 100 entrants from around the world take part each year, making it a lively and welcoming challenge for all abilities. Alongside the main race, spectators can enjoy additional entertainment such as the famous “Snake Race” and humorous attempts at human-powered flight, creating a full day of family-friendly fun.

The Championships are organised by the Castletown Real Ale Drinkers Society and began in 1971 as a one-off idea linked to the local carnival. By 1973, it had grown into its own dedicated event due to its popularity and the tidal limitations of the harbour. Since then, it has become a much-loved annual tradition in Castletown, raising funds for local charities while celebrating community spirit and creativity.

Over the years, the event has gained international attention for its quirky races, inventive contraptions, and colourful history. From celebrity guests and live commentary to elaborate homemade “boats” and unforgettable moments on the water, the World Tin Bath Championships continues to be one of the Isle of Man’s most iconic and entertaining summer events.
