The Manx Museum in Douglas offers a fascinating journey through more than 10,000 years of the Isle of Man’s history, from the Stone Age to the modern era. Visitors can explore interactive displays, films and galleries covering the Island’s Viking and Celtic heritage, including impressive Viking silver and gold hoards. The National Art Gallery features works by renowned Manx artists such as Archibald Knox, William Hoggatt and John Miller Nicholson, while the Natural History Gallery explores the Island’s landscapes, wildlife and habitats. Other highlights include the story of Tynwald, the world’s oldest continuous parliament, the Mann at War gallery, and an exhibition celebrating the legendary TT races and its riders and motorcycles.
The museum is also home to the National Library and Archives, offering visitors the opportunity to discover even more about the Island’s past, while the Bay Room Café and Gallery Shop provide places to relax and find souvenirs. The Manx Museum is open daily from 9.30am to 4.30pm, with free admission. The Library and Archives are open Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm.
